Why recreational Viagra or Cialis use deserves caution
Sildenafil (Viagra) and tadalafil (Cialis) are prescription phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors used for erectile dysfunction (ED). They can be effective and appropriate for younger adults with a diagnosed condition; age alone does not make them unsafe. But using someone else’s tablets, increasing doses without guidance, or taking them merely to enhance an otherwise normal sexual experience carries avoidable risks.
The risks of recreational use
Dangerous combinations: Never mix sildenafil or tadalafil with nitrates such as nitroglycerin, recreational nitrite inhalants sometimes called “poppers,” or riociguat. Blood pressure can fall dangerously. Combining these medicines with heavy alcohol or some blood-pressure medicines can increase dizziness or fainting; other prescriptions and supplements may interact, too.
Side effects: Headache, flushing, indigestion, congestion and dizziness can occur. Seek emergency care for an erection lasting four hours or longer, chest pain, fainting, or sudden vision loss. Sudden hearing loss also requires prompt medical evaluation. Never take a friend's pills or medication purchased from unverified online sellers.
ED can be an early clue about circulation and general health
An erection depends on healthy nerves, blood vessels and hormonal signaling. Persistent or new ED, even in a younger man, deserves assessment for high blood pressure, diabetes or abnormal glucose, high cholesterol, smoking or vaping effects, cardiovascular disease, medication effects, depression, anxiety, sleep conditions, and sometimes low testosterone. The American Urological Association advises clinicians to counsel patients that ED can be a risk marker for cardiovascular disease; it does not mean every young patient has blocked arteries.
What a proper evaluation may include
A clinician may review symptoms and onset, medication and substance use, cardiovascular and family history, blood pressure, psychological or relationship factors, and selectively recommend laboratory evaluation such as glucose/A1c, lipids or morning testosterone. Some symptoms warrant an in-person examination, specialty care, or urgent cardiovascular assessment. Pain with sex or exertion, shortness of breath, fainting or chest discomfort should not be addressed with an ED pill alone.
Will MedRefill Austin prescribe Viagra or Cialis?
Yes, when clinically indicated. Adults physically located in Texas may request a private telehealth assessment. When the history, cardiovascular risk review and clinical circumstances support treatment, our licensed Texas clinician may prescribe sildenafil, tadalafil or another appropriate option to the patient's preferred Texas pharmacy. Prescriptions are never guaranteed. We do not prescribe them simply to boost sexual performance when there is no medical indication.
